Consistency: Establish a consistent schedule for taking your dog outside to potty. Regularity helps them understand when and where to go. Take them out first thing in the morning, after meals, and before bedtime.
Designated Potty Area: Choose a specific spot in your yard where you want your dog to go potty. Consistently take them to this spot to reinforce it's their designated area.
Positive Reinforcement: Reward your dog with praise, treats, or playtime immediately after they go potty outside. Positive reinforcement encourages them to repeat the desired behaviour.
Supervision: Keep a close eye on your dog indoors to prevent accidents. If you catch them starting to go potty inside, interrupt them with a firm "No" and immediately take them outside.
Crate Training: Use a crate to help with potty training. Dogs naturally avoid soiling their sleeping area, so crate training can encourage them to hold their bladder until they are let outside.
Regular Breaks: Take your dog outside frequently, especially if they are a puppy. Puppies have smaller bladders and need more frequent potty breaks.
